FAQ
How do I get a certain movie into next year’s schedule?
We love suggestions on what to show. Please e-mail us at info@gifilmfest.org and we’ll be happy to take the movie you want to see into consideration. There will be several film forums throughout the year, open to the public where you can make such suggestions.
How do you get all these movies?
Whenever possible, the GIIFys try to work directly with the motion picture industry (studios) to find prints of the original films. In the rare case a print is not available, we’ll rely on DVD technology, but we have a strong preference for film.
Why is the word “international” in your title?
Call us dreamers, but if this idea takes off we don’t just want to show films, but also bring in the filmmakers who made them from all over the world. We hope to show all genres of films in the future, so the term “international” is more of a mission statement and a way to cover ourselves if we ever decide to go outside our country’s borders for film. We might even show a foreign animated feature later this year.
Are all films family appropriate?
Films are presented as they were originally shown, from “G” to “R“ ratings. In some cases that means serious films for adults. We will not tone them down, cut them up or alter them in any way from their original theatrical release, so please check on the promotional materials to see if a film is appropriate for little ones. It is always best to research before you see any movie anyway.
How does the punch card work?
We charge $5 for admission into each movie, but you can also purchase a punch card for $50, which is good for 12 admissions. This is NOT a season pass, though it can be used as such. If you want to bring 2 people to 6 movies, you can use the punch card. If you want to bring 4 people to three movies, you can use the punch card. If you want to bring 12 people to one movie, you’re our kind of film fan.
Why are all films at The Grand Theatre downtown?
We at the GIIFys believe in the fine work of the Grand Foundation, and believe the venue is perfect for films that run from the 1920s to the 2000’s. Simply, it’s a great venue run by great people. This does not mean that all films will be show there forever. We look to a time where we can show films outdoors or at a simulated Drive-In!
Your mission statement indicates that you may sponsor local film-makers. What’s up with that?
As you correctly noticed, we hope to one day be able to assist local film-makers who have great ideas to make a movie. We might start this spring with the “GIIFFy Short Film Festival” for high school students, but let’s see how we do first!
